This weekend marks the general trout season opener for all of us in California. For those visiting and living in the greater Northern California area this time of year opens a lot of options up for us.
This is a quiet time of year up in the Sierras before summer really kicks into high gear. Fishing is good during this pre run off time before the flows really ramp up along with the heat and snow melt. The fish have a good assortment of bugs during this spring time. We have everything from big stoneflies to smaller midges and mayfly. The carpenter ants should also be making an appearance soon as the weather begins to warm up. With the plentiful bug life makes for some hungry and eager trout. So there is no better time than now to get out and explore some nearby waters and meadows up in the Sierras.
